This piece was to fit into a small alcove at the end of the living room, near a fireplace. My client wished to display some earthenware but did not want to have a heavy feeling of a cabinet in a corner. After some animated discussion about the various options we settled upon an idea of a simple set of shelves to enliven the space.

When the drawings were complete, my client chose this option, with the inward sweeping arc as her own. We even went to the lumber store together so I could show here some exciting wood I had found earlier that I felt would match her space.

This detail shot reveals furniture can be organic and inviting to touch. It is almost as if the sides are arching as they grow and support the top.
