Oak BowlBack to

While in Devonshire, England I happened upon a farmer cutting down a 120 year old oak tree that had recently died. After a quick conversation I was able to leave with a slice from the butt of the tree. I carved the bowl to a rough shape to reduce bulk and had it shipped back to my workshop.

More than a year passed before the wood dried and stopped moving. Finish carving followed as well as some stitching to fill the void left by the shrunken wood. An oil and wax finish brought back to life the tree’s history.
